Tools and Repair Kits

Having the skills and tools to do emergency repairs on the road can prevent you from getting stranded if something on your bike breaks during a ride. Being comfortable doing routine repairs can also save you time and money. See the League of American Bicyclists' Bicycle Maintenance section for quick tips on general maintenance and repairs. The following tools and kits are available online from Performance Bicycle, or in most local bike shops:

Repair Kits

The Topeak Compact Survival Tool Kit is perfect for emergency repairs. The compact, portable kit includes a seven-function folding tool, 8/10mm box wrenches, 9mm box wrench with dual spoke wrench, universal chain tool, two tire levers, and a patch kit. The case also expands to provide additional storage.

The Park MTB-3 Rescue Multi-Tool contains all the tools you'll need to do emergency repairs, including wrenches, screwdrivers, tire levers, a chain tool, and a knife. This tool is small enough to fit nearly anywhere and comes in a nylon carrying case.

Pumps

You may want to keep a tire pump both at home and in the office if you regularly commute to work. It's also a good idea to keep a portable pump on your bike in case you need to change your tire on the road.

The Park Tool Home Mechanic Floor Pump is ideal for routine tire pressure checks at home or in the office. This shop-quality pump has an easy to read gauge, high-pressure hose, and a head that automatically adjusts to the valve type.

The Performance Hurricane Air Scepter Mini Pump easily mounts to your bicycle for emergency tire changes on the road. The pump also comes with a valve adapter and patch kit
